Guitar Zero Installation – World Tour Guitar
Home -> Guitar Zero Xbox 360 -> Installation -> World Tour Guitar
There are some differences between modding a regular Xplorer guitar and modding the GHWT guitar. To install in a GHWT guitar, follow the Xplorer instructions, but with the following differences.

Here is a labeled picture of the strum pins and the voltage power pins. |

Locate the ribbon cable running from the fret buttons to the Guitar’s internal PCB. the first 8 wires are the fret button wires, the next 3 are for the touchpad part of the neck. We’ll number these 1 through 8 starting at the bottom – they correspond perfectly to the numbered holes in the Guitar Zero PCB.Cut the first 8 wires without cutting the last 3. Connect these to the PCB as shown. |

You don’t necessarily need to drill a hole for the LED, I prefer to use the hole for the knob for hanging the neck strap lefty-style. (See picture for step 13) |

These pictures show how to connect to power. The GHWT guitar has an internal boost circuit that boosts the battery voltage up to 3.3V, and this circuit is only powered when the guitar is on. So the Guitar Zero mod is only powered up when your guitar is on and does not drain your batteries.
I recommend using a nice glob of hot glue to hold wires in place once you are confident you have a good connection.

You need to snip most of the length of the leads off the LED and solder wires to each of these leads. It’s not easy… Once you’ve soldered a wire to the center lead (ground), I recommend using some of the included heat shrink or some electrical tape to both secure the connection a bit, and to prevent a short from occuring with one of the other two wires. Once you have connected a wire to the red and green leads, wrap the whole thing (except the plastic part that emits light) in electrical tape or heat shrinkThe heat shrink can be made to shrink by heating it, either with a lighter (careful!) or a blow dryer, or by holding it over a volcano. |

Here is how everything looks in place. Once you’ve tested the guitar, lift the GZ board up and put a big glob of hot glue under it and that push it down into place. Secure everything with hot glue and/or electrical tape, if it rattles, wires will eventually come loose. |
